Chapter 835

That was as good as announcing his relationship with Rachel to the world.

It was also to tell everyone that the wealthiest family in Seaxas, the Johnson family, had David backing them up.

Moreover, he obliterated any indecent thoughts the opposite sex present in the banquet might have for Rachel.

After all, with David’s status and power, no man would have the guts to touch his woman.

They did not dare to even think about it, let alone take action.

Rachel did not give too much thought to it. However, when she heard David admitting their relationship, she felt a

sense of bliss bubbling within her.

David had given her a strong sense of assurance and security on this occasion.

She turned to look at David beside her. As if telepathic, David looked at her too, and their gazes met.

However, Old Mr. Johnson did not find that romantic.

His hand tightened around the dragon head he was caressing on his walking stick. Veins faintly popped up on the

back of his hand, as if he was trying his best to suppress his emotions.

In the end, everything did not go according to his wishes.

In the past years, he had tried his best to hide Rachel’s existence and to cut ties with the Jones family. In the end,

Rachel still jumped head-on into the fire pit.

He once thought that if Rachel came to her senses one day, it would still not be too late to salvage the situation.

Else, David had so openly announced his relationship with Rachel. That wiped out any glimmer of hope he held on

to so fervently.

Was this fate?

The Jones family of Aureliana was an affluent family that ordinary people could only dream of meeting. And David

had so forthrightly sought a marriage alliance with the Johnson family. The people at the banquet looked toward Old

Mr. Johnson with envy and admiration.

The Johnson family was well-known for being the wealthiest family in Seaxas. They had attracted the envy of

countless people from all over the world. Now that they had David backing them, their authority would grow

stronger.

However, that was not what Old Mr. Johnson wanted.

Old Mr. Johnson looked at Rachel and David. His eyes grew dull and very quickly, he lost some of that vigor.

However, they were in the public eye. Regardless of how upset Old Mr. Johnson was, he had to suppress his

emotions. Even though he knew that there was no turning back, Old Mr. Johnson still carried a trace of hope in his

heart.

He could not stand by and watch as Rachel jumped into the pits of hell.

All those years, he had raised Rachel up meticulously. She was slender and elegant and possessed the grace of a

flower. Old Mr. Johnson was not only carrying out his daughter’s last wishes, but he truly adored Rachel.

Although Rachel was his granddaughter, he had long regarded Rachel as his daughter after so many years.

David seemed to know what Old Mr. Johnson was about to say next. A dark glint flashed across his eyes. “Mr.

Johnson, my grandmother will visit you in the next two days to discuss the engagement personally.”

The people around thein went into a commotion when they heard this.

Rachel and David had not only confirmed their relationship, but they were about to get engaged. It was out of their

expectation.

That meant that their daughters had no fighting chance at all.

Old Mr. Johnson stared at David. He pondered and was silent for very long. Finally, Old Mr. Johnson sighed softly.

“Alright” He sounded despondent.

Lucas stood at the side and did not say anything. He was quietly observing the change in Old Mr. Johnson’s

expression.

His intuition told him that Old Mr. Johnson was against Rachel and David being together. There must be a reason

behind

this.

As he contemplated, a shadow emerged out of the crowd.

When he realized it was Hans, Lucas’s eyes narrowed. A forbidding aura radiated from within the depths of his

glare.

He thought his earlier threats were enough to dispel any unwanted desires Hans had. Seemed like it was difficult for

a leopard to change its spots.

He had actually sneaked into this bidding event.

Hans’s intentions were clear.

Lucas looked at his assistance, and the latter immediately understood his instructions.

The assistant hurried forward. Before the shameless Hans could take another step closer to them, the assistant

covered his face and dragged him out.

The sudden move caught Hans off guard. He struggled with all his might, but he could not break free.

Until the assistant threw him out of the hotel.

“Who are you, people? Do you know who I am?” Hans glared at the assistant in front of him.

The assistant looked at him blankly. He was so calm, like he was looking at an ordinary piece of trash.

Hans grew irate when he realized he had missed that opportunity to establish a relationship and get close to the

wealthiest family in Seaxas.

Crack!

The sound of a lighter igniting.

Lucas walked out slowly with a cigarette between his fingers.

He took a pull and then gently tapped the cigarette to his side.

Hans was slightly stunned to see Lucas. However, he immediately went up to him with a smile. “Mr. Johnson, iso

good to see you here. These people are bullying me. They chased me out of the banquet. You have to help me!”

“Oh right, I forgot to introduce myself. I’m Hans Grey, Rae-Rae’s father.” Hans thought he had struck a jackpot, and

all he could think about was the lavish life from that day onward. He introduced himself emotionally, “Sophia

Johnson is my wife. According to seniority, she’s your aunt, and I’m your uncle.”

He was related to the wealthiest man in Seaxas. When Hans thought of that, adrenaline rushed through his body,

and he became exhilarated. His shrewd eyes flickered with excitement.

Lucas chuckled. “Did you really think you are my senior? Are you worth it?”

A simple sentence but filled with sarcasm and mockery.

Upon hearing this, the smile on Hans’s face fell. His excitement dissipated, and reality started to sink in. He sized up

the expression on Lucas’s face.

Lucas’s chiseled face looked bitterly cold. His eyes looked lifeless and distant.

Hans Grey hesitated and said cautiously, “Mr. Johnson, is there a misunderstanding between us?”

He knew he had neglected Rachel for the past years, and the Johnson family would not be happy about it.

Had he known that the Johnson family was Seaxas’s richest family, he would not have given up Rachel’s custody

and allowed the Johnson family to take her way.

Lucas took a puff of his cigarette. The grayish-white smoke shrouded his face, making it impossible to see his

emotions. Only his deep and hoarse chuckle was heard. It was short, but it sounded fearsome. “If I remember

correctly, back then, you abandoned Rae-Rae in the snow and said that you would never have a daughter like her in

your life. Why did you go back on your word now?”

“Well, 1.” Hans did not expect Lucas to remember what he said in a fit of anger. And it was so long ago.

For a long while, he could not find his words. When he finally decided to approach Lucas shamelessly, he was

stopped by an aggressive-looking man in black. “Lucas, this is all a misunderstanding.”
